Bancomext was founded in 1937. In 1947 it became a member of the Mexican delegation that participates in the Havana Meeting, where for the first time a multilateral agreement is sought to eliminate tariffs and restrictions on world trade.
Bancomext celebrated the first compensation agreements or compensated exchange in 1950. A decade later in 1960, the bank collaborated in three general objectives of the government’s economic policy: the improvement of the trade balance, the strengthening of the terms of trade and industrialisation.
On July 12, 1985, a decree was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation that transforms the National Bank of Foreign Trade, from a Public Limited Company to a National Credit Corporation, a Development Banking Institution. In 2009 Bancomext is designated to support airlines and tourism due to the health contingency caused by the influenza virus.
