Issue 01 . Jan 2023
This issue of Trade Finance Talks delves into collaborative finance in a fragmented world, a theme embraced by Sibos this year. Despite industry efforts to reverse this trend, it highlights the increasing trade finance gap, now at $2.5 trillion. Significant elections in 2024 potentially reshaping global systems emphasise the urgency for collective action. This edition explores the emergence of alternative funding sources as traditional lenders retreat and the seismic shift in cross-border payments towards streamlined, transparent systems. It addresses the trade finance industry's collective action on climate change, expanding carbon accounting, and aligning with ESG efforts. Additionally, it covers TFG's "LGBTQ+ in Trade, Treasury & Payments" panel, advocating for inclusivity in the industry. The digital transformation, driven by the UK's Electronic Trade Documents Act, is also a focal point, requiring collective efforts to bridge consumer experiences, interoperability, and security gaps. This edition serves as a call to action, encouraging industry collaboration and innovation in the face of monumental challenges.
