School of Law partners with Trade Finance Global to launch new prize for International Trade Finance Law students. In a collaboration initiated by Dr Karina Patricio Ferreira Lima, this new prize rewards International Trade Finance Law students with industry exposure.
The School of Law is delighted to announce a new partnership with Trade Finance Global (TFG), the leading B2B fintech in trade finance, to create the Trade Finance Global/University of Leeds International Trade Finance Law Prize (TFG/UoL Prize).
The prize will be awarded annually to a student enrolled in the postgraduate taught course International Trade Finance Law at the School of Law, based on the best summative essay submitted by a student in the course. The recipient of the TFG/UoL Prize will be selected by Dr Karina Patricio Ferreira Lima, the course instructor and initiator of this partnership, and TFG.
The TFG/UoL Prize consists of a monetary award and the opportunity for the recipient to refine their essay and publish it as an article on the TFG website, which attracts around 160k monthly readers from 187 countries.
The prize aims to recognise academic excellence and encourage students to pursue careers in international trade finance law, a dynamic and complex field that involves multiple stakeholders, jurisdictions and regulations.
Dr Karina Patricio Ferreira Lima said, “We are very excited about this collaboration with TFG, which will provide our students with valuable exposure to industry insights and networks. International trade finance law is a fascinating area of study that requires both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The TFG/UoL Prize will reward students who demonstrate originality, rigour and relevance in their essays.”
Natasha Roston, Head of People and Growth at TFG, said, “We are delighted to collaborate with the School of Law at University of Leeds, one of the top institutions for legal education in the UK and worldwide. Our commitment to education and research in this area reflects the importance of trade finance in global economic development. Through the TFG/UoL Prize, we hope to showcase high-quality student work and foster dialogue between academia and industry.”
The first TFG/UoL Prize will be awarded in 2023 for essays submitted in the 2022/23 academic year. For more information about the prize criteria and application process, please contact Dr Karina Patricio Ferreira Lima.
